Our Work
Each day we work to save lives on Nevada’s roadways, through collaboration, partnership and an ongoing commitment to Zero Fatalities. There are five key contributors to making this goal a reality:
- Listen to and seek to understand the road safety needs of all community members and stakeholders
- Participate in meaningful conversations with representatives from a diverse range of community groups
- Educate all communities on safe driving behaviors for crash and fatality prevention
- Keep vehicles in their lane
- Flatten slopes and remove roadside objects
- Increase pedestrian safety by constructing sidewalks, refuge islands, and upgrading signals
- Develop access management programs
- Construct intersection geometric improvements
- Increase intersection awareness with traffic control devices
- Provide for traffic signal upgrades and improvements
- Supply public information on how to maintain vehicles on the roadway
- Conduct public service campaigns to reduce unsafe driving behaviors
- Provide subsidized transportation to/from bars, restaurants, hotels, events, etc.
- Conduct traffic safety education and outreach
- Conduct highly-publicized Driving Under the Influence (DUI) checkpoints
- Seize vehicle/license plate for DUI offenses
- Conduct seat belt enforcement campaigns and pass a primary seatbelt law
- Enforce pedestrian laws at high crash areas
- Evaluate implementing automated enforcement
- Conduct first responder training for state patrol, maintenance workers, etc.
- Provide intelligent transportation system (ITS) technology to reduce response times

We invite you to learn more about the work that’s happening at the state level and in our cities and local communities through educational campaigns and public outreach programs. And we welcome the opportunity to share the work that’s happening behind the scenes through our Strategic Highway Safety Plan, behavioral task forces and the numerous individuals that are dedicated to saving lives.
Don’t Kill a Dream
The message of the Don’t Kill a Dream campaign is simple: when someone is killed…their dreams die too. In 2017, 311 lives were lost on Nevada’s roadways. That’s 311 dreams that were lost and left unfulfilled.
In one year, we have run 3 campaigns using the Don’t Kill a Dream theme, to combat the top 3 most dangerous traffic-related behaviors in Nevada: Impaired Driving, Pedestrians and Speeding. These statewide campaigns generated over 110 million impressions, but more importantly had over 900K Nevadans engaging with and sharing this important message.
Public Outreach
Our outreach program aims to increase accessibility to traffic safety education and resources and to build awareness of the traffic safety issues effecting individuals, families, friends, employers and our communities.
