There is a new Nevada Advisory Committee on Traffic Safety (NVACTS) to oversee the efforts across the state to reduce fatalities and serious injuries on Nevada’s roadways. The purpose of NVACTS is to review, study, and make recommendations regarding certain issues relating to traffic safety in Nevada and report annually. The committee will take on the responsibilities of the former Nevada Executive Committee on Traffic Safety (NECTS).
NVACTS assumes the roles and responsibilities of the former NECTS for the Strategic Highway Safety Plan. NVACTS includes the following 20 voting members:
- Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) Director (or designee)
- Department of Health and Human Services Director (or designee)
- Department of Motor Vehicles Director (or designee)
- Department of Public Safety
- Superintendent of Public Instruction (or designee)
- NDOT
- Assembly Standing Committee on Growth and Infrastructure
- Senate Standing Committee on Growth and Infrastructure
- Administrative Office of the Courts
- Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada
- Nevada System of Higher Education (2)
- Metropolitan Planning Organizations
- Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County
- Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada
- Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization
- Tahoe Regional Planning Agency
- Nevada Association of Counties
- Nevada League of Cities
- Nevada Sheriff’s and Chiefs’ Association
The committee purpose and function is to review, study, and make recommendations for the following:
Best Practices: Evidence-based best practices for reducing or preventing deaths and injuries related to motor vehicle crashes on roadways in this State
Data: Data on motor vehicle crashes resulting in death or serious bodily injury in this state, including, without limitation, factors that cause such crashes and measures known to prevent such crashes
Policies: Policies intended to reduce or prevent fatalities and injuries related to motor vehicle crashes on roadways in this state
NVACTS will prepare and submit annual reports to the Governor and to the Director of the Legislative Counsel Bureau for transmittal to the Legislature. These reports will summarize activities of the Advisory Committee that address, without limitation, any issue reviewed or studied, and any recommendations made by the Advisory Committee.
NVACTS meets quarterly, on the first Tuesday of February, May, August, and end of October following the Nevada Traffic Safety Summit. More information can be found here.
