GHSA and General Motors Release New Report Calling for Change in Distracted Driving

The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) and General Motors (GM) released a new report outlining their goal to change social norms surrounding distracted driving.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 3,142 fatalities resulted from distracted driving crashes in 2020. It is also estimated that 400,000 serious injuries result from distracted driving crashes each year. However, due to underreporting, the true numbers are likely much higher.

The GHSA report Directing Drivers’ Attention: A State Highway Safety Office Roadmap for Combating Distracted Driving offers a comprehensive examination of the issue and provides recommendations to help State Highway Safety Offices (SHSOs) combat this behavior and make it socially unacceptable.
